The Fogolar Furlan of Windsor is proudly celebrating its 50th anniversary
in 2011. In honour of this special occasion we are throwing a huge party
called POLENTAFEST on Saturday, September 24th!
POLENTAFEST is an all ages event for the communities of Windsor,
Essex County, and beyond! The main feature
of this festival is a Guinness World Records™ attempt
to make the world's largest Polenta!
What is Polenta?
Polenta is a dish made from fine-ground boiled cornmeal and has a smooth, creamy texture.
It is a hearty peasant food served with sauces, sausages & salumi, or stews containing
beef, veal and pork.
Why Polenta?
Polenta originates from the Friuli region of Italy, the homeplace of the members
of the Fogolar Furlan Club. It is a staple dish in every Furlan household
and is a perfect food for sharing!
Don't miss the party! - Saturday, September 24, 2011
The gates open
at 10am as we begin boiling 2250 litres of water for the record-setting polenta.
Starting at 12pm and lasting throughout the day, barbeque food items will be available in addition
to beer, wine, and refreshments. Children's activities including bouncing castles, face painting,
18' slide and cotton candy will be available from 12-5pm. A wood carver will also be on hand
giving live demonstrations throughout the day.

Guinness World Records™
The culmination of our efforts will occur between 3-4pm, at
which time the polenta will be weighed and judged by an official Guinness World Records™
adjudicator! You won't want to miss it! After judging, free servings of polenta will be available for all guests
(selected toppings sold separately).
Live Entertainment
Throughout the day we will have live music suitable for all ages. From noon through 4pm
a selection of young acoustic acts will perform, including Brendan Friel,
David Pinard,
Ed Leblanc, Lauren S, Clinton Hammond,
Adriel,
Shortcut to Last,
and Laura Palumbo. From 5-9pm, Beatles
tribute band Liverpool Echo will get the party started! Finally from 9pm-1am,
Big Louie & the Band will send us off into the night with the best of Motown, Pop, Disco and Classic tunes!
Admission
Admission is $2 and goes to benefit the Windsor Downtown Mission. Children 10 & under are free.
Free parking is available on site.
