Community Involvement
The Fogolar Furlan is involved in many different community projects in the Windsor area.
We frequently hold pasta fundraiser dinners at our facility for nearby churches and
organizations. We are also part of Windsor's Adopt-A-Road
programme. Every month during the spring & summer a few of our members volunteer to clean the garbage
off of the south shoulder of North Service Road. In 2005 the Fogolar joined with all Windsorites
and Canadians and donated to the tsunami relief in Asia. Most recently, the Fogolar
donated pasta, chicken, potatoes, and bread to the 2006 OPP Cop Camp held at Camp Cedarwin
on August 18, 19, 20. In regard to Italian and cultural
activities, the Fogolar supports the Italian programme at the University of Windsor
each year through a monetary donation and also has a scholarship fund that is awarded
to students of Furlan ancestry who are entering post secondary education.
The Fogolar Women's Association has been
involved in a huge fundraiser during 2005 & 2006 raising money for the Heart of the City Foundation.
As of October 4, 2006 (the date of their most recent Pasta Fest) they successfully reached their monumental
goal of $20 000 that will go towards the purchase of wheelchairs for the physically challenged.
The Fogolar Youth Group
has volunteered at the Downtown Mission, cooking and serving pasta
donated by the Club. They've held
can drives and volunteered for fundraisers for Windsor's Children's Safety Village as well.
In September 2006, the Youth Group hosted a Fashion Show which raised $3000 for
the Ontario Paramedic Association's site at Windsor's Children's Safety Village.
In addition to all these community projects, the Fogolar sponsors youth sports teams
and many school luncheons every year.
